The UN Continues to Investigate the Theft of Firearms from Storage of its Mission in Iraq

A Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General Farhan Haq claimed that the UN is investigating the theft of more than 25 firearms, including pistols, machine guns and sniper rifles, from the storage of its mission in Iraq.

According to him the theft was discovered in October. Iraqi authorities were immediately made aware of the incident. Farhan Haq added that the Iraqi government has all the necessary assistance in the investigation.

Earlier, Inner City Press reported that 18 pistols, five rifles Heckler & Koch G36, and two sniper rifles, as well as tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition to them were stolen from the storage of the UN mission in Iraq. However, Haq noted that the theft of ammunition is untrue.
