On Sunday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held a meeting in Damascus Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani to discuss the ways of solving the Syrian crisis and the cooperation between Syria and Iran.
According to Shamkhani, Iran is seeking political approaches in order to end war and is supporting the united and undivided Syria.
Besides, the Iranian politician stressed out Bashar al-Assad’s prominent role in leading the Syrian government and popular forces in the fight against terrorism and drew attention that the latest gains in this direction were achieved due to the cooperation between Damascus, Tehran and Moscow.
However, Shamkhani said that not only IS terrorists are a threat to peace in Syria but also the groups of the so-called “moderate” opposition which keep violating the newly achieved ceasefire agreement and attempting to torpedo the truce negotiations. Neutralizing such behavior is a top-priority target for Damascus and its allies.
