The UN Security Council Welcomes Syrian Talks

Swedish Ambassador to the UN Olof Skoog, the President Security Council, told journalists that, during a special meeting the members of the Council supported Russian and Turkish initiative and efforts on Syrian talks to end violence, establish ceasefire and to give impetus to the political process under UN guidance.

Skoog also stated that upcoming Astana talks should become a step toward the success of the UN-led talks on Syria in Geneva.

The statement published after the meeting calls for parties to allow humanitarian organizations fast, safe and unhampered access throughout Syrian territory. Olof Skoog also condemns continuing barbarous actions of Islamic state terrorists.
