In an interview given to SANA, Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari assessed the possible success of the meeting and expressed his opinion on its sides.
In particular, he talked about the role of the U.S. while its ambassador takes part in the negotiations as an observer. “We hope the U.S. action will be more positive and further involved in pushing things forward towards the political solution,” he said.
Al-Jaafari mentioned that the negotiations were set up between the guarantors of the meeting and extending invitations to any of the parties isn’t a priority. Besides, the parties will conduct intra-Syrian dialogue among Syrians without foreign interference or preconditions.
