Islamic State on January, 15-23 shelled the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor. As a result, at least 19 civilians were killed and 44 were injured of varying severity. Official statement was made by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The Syrian Armed Forces in response launched a series of strikes on the positions of militants near the terminal area of Deir ez-Zor. As a result, the Islamists suffered heavy losses in manpower and ease pressure in these areas. The army airstrikes targeted the ISIS fortifications and movement axes in al-Howeiqa, Haweijet Saker, Aiyash warehouses, and al-Rushdiyeh neighborhood and in the surroundings of the Panorama, al-Thardeh and Deir ez-Zor Airport. Moreover, warplanes of the Syrian Army killed more than 30 ISIS terrorists in al-Tharda mountain, Mostodaat(warehouses) Ayash, to the east of the Airport and to the northwest of Tal Borouk in Deir Ezzor Province.
A fight is going on between the Syrian Arab Army and ISIS near the cemetery and on the southern outskirts of the town at the moment.
According UN OCHA report published, the bodies of at least 40 minors, died in the battles were found in the area near Deir ez-Zor where clashes between government forces and terrorists are taking place. This may testify in favor of assumption that the terrorists are actively using children in hostilities.
