On Monday, in a new report to the Security Council, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that in 2016, IS earned $260 million from oil trade, mainly from oil fields in Deir Ezzor. In 2015, the terrorists’ oil revenues estimated $500 million.
In total, oil and gas, extortion and “taxation” together account for up to 80 percent of ISIS income.
To note is that Syria and its allies have achieved a lot in their fight against the Islamic State. Recently, the terrorists have been attempting to defend Deir Ezzor province which is witnessing a serious assault.
