Anwar Muslim, the chairman of the Kobani provincial government said that Syrian Kurds agreed with a number of points in the draft constitution, which was proposed by the Russian delegation at the first meeting in Astana. Particularly, he added that he finds suitable points on the limitation of presidential power and the withdrawal from the name of the country the word “Arab”.
However, despite the positive assessment of the constitution, there are some points that need to be discussed. According to Anwar Muslim, national minorities’ rights should be clearly stated in the basic law.
Syrian Kurds don’t intend to limit themselves to a “cultural autonomy”, and insist on grant their political rights, as well as a clear definition of the geographical boundaries of the region, belonging to them.
