Today, a two-day G20 foreign ministers summit began in Germany. During the meeting the foreign ministers will discuss the goals of global development until 2030, as well as ways to prevent future crises. At the same time, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said that one of the issues on the agenda will be the discussion of the situation in Syria.
Gabriel stressed that diplomats are determined to work in multilateral formats. He also noted that there is no country in the world that can solve the problems alone, and that the G20 format will help to find a solution to many of today’s problems.
It should be mentioned that new U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, who represents the administration of U.S. President, Donald Trump, participates the summit. During his election campaign, Trump announced its intention to stop supporting Syrian opposition groups and focus on the fight against ISIS. Meanwhile, U.S. President did not rule out the possibility of cooperation with the Syrian government and its allies.
