UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, at the opening of negotiations in Geneva highly appreciated the Astana process and the efforts of Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkey, which have helped to strengthen the cease-fire in Syria.
According to him, this initiative has helped to achieve a truce between the warring parties.
In addition, the special envoy is confident that the talks in Astana make positive impact on the negotiations in Geneva, which started almost a year after the pause.
The main terms of the talks in Geneva will be the creation of a new government of Syria, the discussion of a draft constitution of the country and the holding of elections.
