First Militants Flee Al-Qaboun in Damascus

First militants and their families have departed from the Al-Qaboun District in eastern Damascus.

At least 50 militants and their families have left Al-Qaboun so far and another 250 are expected to leave later today, as the Syrian government has taken control over this district for the first time since late 2011.

Both Al-Qaboun and Tishreen have long been under the control of militants; these districts played an integral role in the latter’s battle against the Syrian Army in the eastern sector of Damascus.

With the surrender of Al-Qaboun and Tishreen by the jihadists on Saturday, the Syrian Army can now turn their attention to the Jobar District, where they have been engaged in a fierce battle for more than five years.
