Armenia sends a new shipment of aid to Syria

According to the Armenian Defense Ministry statement made on June 7, Armenia has sent another major consignment of humanitarian assistance to Syria. It is stated that the humanitarian aid was sent on behalf of the Armenian President within the framework of previous agreements between the ministries.
The humanitarian aid includes 18 tons of food and basic necessities. It was delivered by air. The text on the boxes reads “To the fraternal people of Syria with warm wishes of peace from Armenia”. Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia were sent to Syria to distribute food and essential supplies.
It should be noticed that various estimates suggest that between 70 to 130 thousand people are in the Armenian diaspora in Syria. They found themselves in a difficult situation after the beginning of the conflict in Syria. Mass outflow of Armenians to the historical homeland from Syria has been going on since 2012. According to the information provided by RA Minister of Diaspora, Hranush Hakobyan, to Inside Syria Media Center, about 18,000 Syrian Armenians received Armenian citizenship in 2016.
