Resolution of Syrian Crisis is Impossible Without Russia: De Mistura

The United Nations special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura after the talks with the Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano, at a press conference stated, that the peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis is impossible without Russia, and perhaps the coming autumn could become the tipping point of the whole crisis.
It should be mentioned, that the special envoy has also touched the humanitarian aid issue, as against the background of the prolonged sanctions and the restrictions of the West on the supplies of medicine, thousands of Syrians continue to suffer.
In his turn Angelino Alfano emphasized the importance of a political dialogue with Russia to achieve a political settlement of the Syrian crisis. According to him, the positive cooperation of Moscow and Washington could contribute much the reduction of tensions and stabilize situation in the Middle East.
On June 8, during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Staffan de Mistura stressed the importance of coordination between the talks in Geneva and the upcoming talks in Astana sponsored by Iran, Russia and Turkey, saying they are “closely interconnected.”
