According to U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan George Krol’s statement for press, the U.S. Department of State was invited to participate in Syria peace talks in Astana as an observer. Krol also added that Washington hadn’t given its answer yet. According to him, it isn’t known yet who will present the United States at the negotiations.
Despite the invitation, the issue of the U.S. participation in the negotiations on Syria can be seriously questioned. The U.S. representatives repeatedly presented at the talks, but the U.S. Department of State was vigorously ignoring all attempts to make an agreement.
First of all, Washington ignores any proposals on the “de-escalation” zones in Syria. The U.S. in fact, is trying to establish a regime of security zones in the way that suits them. Apparently, the United States does not intend to coordinate its plans with the international community and other parties to the conflict.
