Astana Talks Aimed at Cessation of Hostilities in Syria

The UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura during a joint press conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende stated that Syrian talks in Astana are extremely important and useful for cessation of hostilities in the country.
According to de Mistura, the next round of Syrian talks in Kazakh capital is scheduled for the beginning of July. However he refused to comment on his presence at the next talks. At the same time, the special envoy says that after meeting in Astana and G20 summit in Hamburg the next round of Syrian talks in Geneva is planned.
In addition, de Mistura pointed out, that the United States and Russia should coordinate their efforts on creating de-escalation zones in Syria in order not to lose a chance to improve the situation in the country.
