Iran Calls U.S. Accusations of Chemical Attacks by Damascus Groundless

The Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehqan while speaking at conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of coming into effect of the Chemical Weapons Convention stated that the U.S. accusations that the Syrian authorities have used chemical weapons are groundless.
In the meantime, the minister pointed out that Damascus has never used poisonous substances against its own nation, as they have completely got rid of chemical weapons. This fact was confirmed by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons  (OPCW) in 2015.
Earlier, on June 29 OPCW experts affirmed that on April 4, sarin nerve gas was used in Khan Sheikhoun. However it was no found who exactly used the chemical weapons.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry criticized the report of OPCW, calling it fabricated on a trumped-up version. Let us remind you that after the incident in Khan Sheikhoun Damascus rebutted allegations that the Syrian Air Force did not possess chemical weapons to commit such an attack. In addition, the Syrian government expressed its willingness to contribute the sending of OPCW experts to Khan Sheikhoun for an on-site investigation. The Syrian authorities also offered a special plane to visit the airbase in Shayrat, but the specialists refused.
