The Central Bank of Syria has issued a number of new banknotes including one of 2,000 pounds with the image of the country’s president Bashar Assad.
To be noted is that portraits of presidents and outstanding personalities made a significant contribution to the development of the state are printed quite often on the banknotes. Apparently, the portrait of the current president was printed as a result of his performed important services for the country including his policy aimed at liberalizing the country’s state system, as well as his significant contribution to resolving the Syrian conflict and to combating ISIS.
For the first time, the portrait of Bashar Assad has been appeared on national currency. A £ 1,000 banknote with the father of the current leader, President Hafez al-Assad, was the biggest in Syria.
