Russia & US Agree Upon De-Escalation Zones in Southwest Syria

On Friday, during their talk at the G20 meeting in Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump reached an agreement on a ceasefire in southwest Syria.

According to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, the two leaders had a lengthy discussion of other areas in Syria where both countries can work together.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the U.S., Russia and Jordan have issued a joint memorandum on establishing a de-escalation zone in southwest Syria, in the regions of Daraa, Quneitra and Suwayda.

The ceasefire will come into effect at noon Damascus time on July 9.
