UN Humanitarian Aid Delivered to Raqqa for First Time in Three Years

Food supplies reached two villages in Raqqa province via the reopened road from Aleppo, UN reported on Wednesday.

The road used by the UN convoy was blocked by terrorists since 2014 and has been recently liberated by the Syrian army and the SDF. “This new route allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to expand its regular food deliveries to Raqqa,” the statement reads.

According to the UNHCR, up to 50,000 people are still trapped in the ISIS-held city while the residents suffer from shortages of water, food and medical supplies.
