Last week, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) units backed by the allied forces after the complete liberation of the northeastern part of Homs province initiated large-scale offensive towards the last ISIS stronghold in Syria, the city of Deir Ezzor.
Backed by the aviation, Hezbollah and Liwaa Fatemiyoun units, the government forces managed to advance deeper along the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway for 30 kilometers, recapturing more than 20 settlements.
Following the liberation of Kasrat Al-Faraj and Jadidat Al-Huwayz the Syrian troops approached the western countryside of Haloubah, which is also located along the Sukhnah-Deir Ezzor Highway.
So, SAA is now 66 kilometers from Deir Ezzor. According to military sources, the advancement of government troops to the city can take few weeks, as the deserts predominates in the area. This fact facilitates the speedy advance of the troops.
