The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have announced a new military operation in the Deir Ezzor Governorate along the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.
Led by their Deir Ezzor Military Council, the SDF will push from several axes in the Euphrates River Valley in order to seal the Iraqi border.
This new campaign was announced by the Deir Ezzor Military Council’s commander, Ahmad Al-Khawlah; it is dubbed “Operation Island Storm”.
While the SDF attempts to clear the eastern bank of the Euphrates, the Iraqi Armed Forces have already started their operation to expel the Islamic State from the large desolate area they control along the Syrian border.
The Iraqi Armed Forces have made remarkable progress, liberating a large chunk of the territory that was occupied by the Islamic State.
