Iraqi Government and International Coalition Hide Real Civilian Death Toll in Mosul

On December 20, Amnesty International announced the real number of civilian casualties died as a result of the military operation in Mosul.

Responding to reports made by the Associated Press that between 9,000 to 11,000 civilians have been killed in the battle for Mosul, Lynn Maalouf, Head of Research for Amnesty International in the Middle East said that the AP’s estimate was more than ten times the figures reported by the Coalition forces, who had claimed responsibility for only 326 deaths.

Besides, according to Amnesty International, the failure of the Iraqi and Coalition forces to acknowledge and investigate civilian deaths in Mosul is a blatant abdication of responsibility.
