New Round of Syria Peace Talks Begins in Astana

Today, the eighth round of negotiations on Syria began in Astana. According to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, representatives of Iran, Turkey and Russia arrived at the meeting, as well as the Syrian government delegation and representatives of the opposition.

It is noted that delegates from Jordan and the United States were present as observers. In addition, the ministry confirmed that the UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura would join the negotiation process on Friday.

It is known that the key issues of discussions would be related to maintaining the ceasefire in the de-escalation zones, providing humanitarian assistance to civilians, demining of liberated settlements and details of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi.
