On Wednesday German chancellor broke her silence on the Turkish offensive on Afrin in Northern Syria. Angela Merkel fiercely condemned gigantic civilian casualties caused by the Turkish attacks on Kurds.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry rejected the Chancellor’s criticism as unacceptable. Ankara slammed Merkel’s statement based on disinformation and accused Germany of looking at the situation through the eyes of Kurdish terrorists.
The Turkish forces launched Olive Branch Operation on January 22, 2018 against the Kurdish-led Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin and Tell Rifaat, Syria. The Turkish Defense Ministry claims over 3,400 terrorists have been neutralized and at least 500 civilians have been killed since the operation started.
