A campaign is underway to destabilise the “Rojava” area of north-eastern Syria, ruled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a composite force wholly dominated by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), an internally-designated terrorist organisation whose operatives use the banner of the People’s Protection Forces (YPG) in Syria. The SDF/PKK captured a lot of Arab-majority areas as a side-effect of the American-led war against the Islamic State (IS), which deputized the SDF as its ground force in Syria. It was always clear that these inhabitants did not wish to be ruled by an authoritarian Kurdish nationalist party with Marxist inflections and a cult around its leader, Abdullah Ocalan.
And now Inside Syria Media Center’s military correspondents report numerous rumors from SDF-affiliated sources on the first ground operation which has been launched with the participation of the French contingent. Kurds from the SDF began to ‘clean up’ a number of Arab villages in the southeast of Al-Hasakah Governorate together with the French SOF under the pretext of unconfirmed data on ISIS activation in that area. A joint special operation was completely developed under the leadership of the U.S. military. The French Foreign Legion is mostly being used and the French special forces officers moderate their actions along with the American advisers. The locals are perplexed by what is happening. Many of them have been facing intertribal and interethnic conflicts on the territories controlled by the SDF.
